Detectives working for the parents of missing British child Madeleine McCann are investigating a convicted pedophile in connection with the her disappearance, family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said Friday. The Daily Mirror tabloid said Briton Raymond Hewlett was living an hour away from Praia da Luz, Portugal, where the girl disappeared two years ago when she was 3 years old. The paper cited Alan and Cindy Thompson, who it said had met Hewlett while he was in Portugal, as the source of its information.  It quoted the Thompsons as saying Hewlett denied having anything to do with Madeleine's disappearance. The new portal is the latest update in the Vatican's efforts to broaden the pope's audience and reach out to young people. Earlier this year, Benedict got his own YouTube channel. While wary of the potential pitfalls of new media, Benedict has also encouraged young Catholics to use the Internet to spread the church's message.
